Jo, my darling

You can't have 17 for 22. There just aren't that many people on a cricketing side, not under conventional rules - backyard cricket, maybe.

What am I saying? Why do I care? The ABC Cricket commentary on the radio has eaten my brain. Aargh!

I know what you mean about drop spindles - it really made me chuckle to read your thoughts. When I first attempted to learn (I even took a class) I was so annoyed that I vowed to never give spinning another moment of my life. Heck, I love knitting, I thought to myself - I don't need ANOTHER hobby. That was years ago. Now, I spin a lot - and work for Spin-Off. Go figure.

Some folks never do enjoy using spindles - even if they are good at it - they may prefer spinning wheels or supported spindles. While others, like myself, eventually find it relaxing.

The best advice I can give is to try the park and draft method until you get reasonably comfortable with your drafting techniques. Then you can start dangling the spindle from the yarn you're creating. But, there's no need to try everything at once. While practicing with park and draft you might as well be seated. This will add to your patience. Once you're ready to try standing up with your spindle stand over a bed or couch so that if the spindle does drop (which it probably will a few times) at least you won't have to bend all the way over to pick it up off the floor constantly. We have some free brochures on our website (if you haven't discovered them already) as well as a guild listing. So, you might be able to find some local spinners to help you as well. Good luck, and have fun!
